For the picspammy challenge: Year-End List. So, here are my top 10 11 most-played artists this year, according to my last.fm (as of Dec 18 2010). So much fun, I swear - and with goodies!

11. A Very Potter Musical

I had to have AVPM as number 11, or an honourable mention - I just had to. The term 'instant classic' is thrown around a lot these days, but this is a prime example. Amazing songs, hilarious one-liners and the ultimate in geekery - of course I was going to include this! It's a testament to how good it is that it's over a year and half old, and still gets regular play. (And this doesn't include A Very Potter Sequel, either, brilliant as that one is as well.)

Plays: 1,024
Top Five: Cho Chang | Ginny | Granger Danger | Different | To Dance Again

10. Passion Pit

Band new loves for me this year - all these plays are only from about July-December. YEAH. I saw them live and was instantly hooked - amazing show, amazing band. They get stuck in my head all. the. TIME. and there's nothing I love more than an irresistible ear-worm.

Plays: 1,106
Top Five: Moth's Wings | Make Light | Sleepyhead | The Reeling | Little Secrets

09. Arcade Fire

Arcade Fire roared back with a vengeance this year. 'The Suburbs' is the best, most complete album I've heard in a long, long time and it's pure AF: brilliant, epic, flawless. Top five is a mix of the old, and the new, which I think suits this band; everything remains relevant and the new stuff is just as epic.

Plays: 1,330
Top Five: Neighbourhood # 3 (Power Out) | Keep the Car Running | Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains) | Une annee sans lumiere | Ready to Start

08. Florence + the Machine

Everyone and their mother fell in love with Florence this year, and I was not immune. There's nothing quite like driving down a deserted road in a thunderstorm, blasting and screaming along with ... well, any song from 'Lungs,' really. Music should evoke a mood; that's the mood I associate with this album.

Plays: 1,419
Top Five: Blinding | Howl | Between Two Lungs | Kiss With a Fist | Dog Days Are Over

07. Stars

Stars are consistently in my rotation for one reason: amazing lyrics. Some of the songs have great hooks, and others positively send chills down my spine, but I will always love Stars for their storytelling and lyricism. Amazing, live, too.

Plays: 2,488
Top Five: The Woods | I Died So I Could Haunt You | Wasted Daylight | The Night Starts Here | Midnight Coward

06. Glee

Well, here's the deal with Glee - I really don't like it being on this list. I haven't watched Glee in months, haven't listened to a song in longed, but hey - last.fm doesn't lie, does it? As frustrating as the show got for me, some of these songs are still perfect and will always have a place on my iPod. What can I say, Lea Michele is amazing.

Plays: 2,620
Top Five: Don't Rain On My Parade | On My Own | I Dreamed a Dream | Don't Stop Believin' | Maybe This Time

drumroll for the top 5, please ...

05. Regina Spektor

I've been in love with Regina Spektor for as long as I can remember. Her songs are fun and quirky, and some are deep, and all of them get me to sing along, somehow. Absolutely flawless, and 'Far' skyrocketed into my most played Regina songs - no easy feat.

Plays: 2,628
Top Five: One More Time With Feeling | Blue Lips | Laughing With | Fidelity | Folding Chair

04. Rilo Kiley

Rilo Kiley was sneaky this year - I had no idea I listened to them this much! But, I will admit, when I don't know what I'm in the mood for, 'More Adventurous' is usually the first place I turn. The album is 6 years old and hasn't suffered a day of those years.

Plays: 2,754
Top Five: A Man/Me/Then Jim | The Good That Won't Come Out | Three Hopeful Thoughts | It's A Hit | Hail to Whatever You Found in the Sunlight That Surrounds You

03. Laura Marling

I'm not sure how to describe my relationship to Laura Marling. She makes me cry, she makes me laugh, she makes me feel fragile and breakable and utterly destroyed. So, it's complicated, right? But beautiful. Her voice just speaks to me and always manages to say what I'm thinking, only better.

Plays: 2,785
Top Five: Failure | Ghosts | New Romantic | Cross Your Fingers | You're No God

02. The Beatles

It's the Beatles. What do you want me to say, it's the fucking Beatles. Another sneak-up-on-me sort of artist, because the Beatles aren't something I replay over and over again, but they are always, always relevant.

Plays: 2,953
Top Five: And I Love Her | I Should Have Known Better | I Saw Her Standing There | I'm Happy Just to Dance With You | Can't Buy Me Love

01. Basia Bulat

Number one with a bullet; no competition for Basia this year. And is it any wonder? I repeated for weeks before I saw her live, and have repeated her ever since. I could probably dedicate a top ten to just Basia's songs, but that might be cheating. Georgeous, flawless, fabulous - she's everything I would ever need in my musical life. 'The Shore' was my jam this year, if a jam can be the song you turn to when you need to put your head down and take a deep breath. Love, love, love, now and forever.

Plays: 3,419
Top Five: The Shore | Run | Snakes and Ladders | Once More, For the Dollhouse | Go On

fun facts:
24526 total songs
▪ an average of 2229 songs per artist
3 Canadians
3 Brits
